Home Composting
What is it and how to participate?
Home composting is one of the strategic axes for promoting the reduction, reuse and circularity of biowaste developed by LIPOR and its Associated Municipalities. In order to materialize this strategy, we deliver free of charge equipment (composters and buckets) to citizens, allowing the local treatment of biowaste generated daily.
This project is available for citizens residing in LIPOR's intervention area (Espinho, Gondomar, Maia, Matosinhos, Porto, Póvoa de Varzim, Valongo and Vila do Conde).
Conditions for participation in the project and attribution of the composter:
- own a garden or cultivable area in the LIPOR region (Espinho, Gondomar, Maia, Matosinhos, Porto, Póvoa de Varzim, Valongo and Vila do Conde);
- be over 18 years of age;
- comply with the project's regulations (document in Portuguese);
- still not having any composter assigned by LIPOR;
- allow at least one monitoring visit to the area (see here how we monitor the project);
- Participate in a composting training session.
Note: this project is only available for residents in LIPOR eight municipalities
