CREW workshop in Angola and its impact
LIPOR was on an international mission in Luanda, Angola last July. In response to another request from the Congregation of the Salesians of Don Bosco, LIPOR provided technical assistance to the Ecojovens Project to create a "Workshop for the Repair of Small Domestic Appliances”.
In the meantime, we decided to ask our client what impact they expect the CREW Workshop to have on the target audience. The answer soon came back, and we share it with our readers.
"From the Salesians of Don Bosco in Angola, we hope that the CREW workshop can have an impact in two ways. On the one hand, to educate and on the other to contribute to development and the eradication of poverty.
To educate, because the workshop is located in a professional training center and will be a learning space for the students of the basic electricity course; to educate because it will appeal to the sustainable consumption and reuse of household appliances of the population, especially of the neighborhood where the center is located and of the center's trainees, to educate because, unfortunately, in Angola we are also affected by the throwaway culture, and through this workshop we intend to set an example to the contrary through a concrete proposal.
It will contribute to the development of the population and the eradication of poverty, because being located in a peri-urban neighborhood of Luanda, it will be close to the most vulnerable people with the lowest incomes, allowing them to take advantage of repaired appliances, at symbolic and affordable prices, which can, for example, help to improve the quality of water, by repairing and making available a simple boiler...”
A testimony that clearly shows the relevance of this consultancy, which had as its primary objectives the sharing of knowledge and experiences, working with the target audience on the technical design of adapted work methodologies, the development of the circular economy concept, always with the aim of repairing and extending the useful life of broken electrical and electronic equipment.
The partnership between LIPOR and the Congregation of the Salesians of Don Bosco is a significant example of how international collaboration generates positive impact at local level, promoting sustainability and community empowerment.
