LIPOR and Matosinhos launch an awareness campaign for the collection of cork stoppers

LIPOR, the Municipality of Matosinhos and Quercus started with the Rolha a Rolha Semeie a Recolha project. This project aims to promote the selective collection of door-to-door cork stoppers from non-residential customers (restaurants, cafes, hotels, etc.) in the municipality.

In the first days of the awareness campaign, more than 20 customers joined the project. The project is developed in partnership with Quercus, BA Vidro, Amorim, Extruplás, and aims to encourage the recycling of cork, contributing to reforestation in Portugal, as for every 50 corks collected, an indigenous tree will be planted.

The creation of this new channel for collecting cork stoppers within the scope of Green Cork - a project created in 2008 by Quercus in partnership with Corticeira Amorim and Continente and which has already allowed the collection of around 98 million stoppers - will make it possible to forward cork stoppers for recycling.

This project aims to promote the recycling of cork, contribute to reforestation in Portugal and allow participant establishments and their customers to contribute to the fight against climate change, through the reduction of CO2 emissions retained in cork stoppers, and to the promotion of the circular economy.
