LIPOR in S. Paulo
LIPOR was represented on a business mission that took place from January 13 to 17, with the aim of sharing its experience in urban waste management, which spans more than 40 years.
The mission agenda included technical visits, meetings with leading organizations in the municipal waste sector in Brazil and São Paulo and participation in the II International Seminar on the Recovery of Municipal Solid Waste: Experiences, Regulation and Technologies.
LIPOR's presentation, which was part of the conference's Sixth Panel: Energy Recovery from Municipal Solid Waste, had a special focus on energy recovery, highlighting LIPOR's experience in operating its Energy Recovery Plant for around 25 years. The history was covered, from the conception and design of the plant to the present day, the evolution of the main performance indicators, the lessons learned, strategies for involving key stakeholders and the other key success factors that guarantee the high performance of this facility, which is a benchmark in Portugal.
This mission was an excellent contribution to enriching the debate currently taking place in Brazil. It came at a highly opportune moment, since Brazil is embarking on a path of investment in waste-to-energy solutions through controlled incineration with the production of renewable electricity.
In addition to the presentation at the Conference and technical visits to the infrastructures of the two concessionaires operating in São Paulo, LOGA and Ecourbis, there were meetings with the São Paulo City Council, SP Regula and ABREMA - the Brazilian Waste and Environment Association.
