LIPOR International mission in Manaus, Brazil, within the scope of Strategic Plan Development
LIPOR participated in a Mission to Manaus, held from September 8 to 12, within the scope of the international service provided for the development of the Municipal Basic Sanitation Plan of Manaus (PMSBM).
The LIPOR International – Global Waste Management team is part of the group of specialists responsible for drafting this strategic plan, which encompasses four components: water supply, sanitation, stormwater management, and solid waste management & urban cleaning. LIPOR is responsible for preparing the 20-year Forecast of the Waste component, which is essential for the future of waste management in the city.
The main objectives of the mission were to gain knowledge of the context and reality of Manaus, its territorial planning, challenges, infrastructures, and the expectations of the Municipality of Manaus. Meetings were held with the main sector stakeholders and with waste picker cooperatives, with the aim of identifying key needs.
The mission’s agenda included meetings with the Municipality of Manaus, AGEMAN – Regulatory Agency for Delegated Public Services of Manaus, IPAAM – Amazonas Environmental Protection Institute, and Waste Picker Associations, as well as technical visits to the city, sorting facilities, and the infrastructures of the two concessionaires operating in Manaus, Tumpex and Marquise.
This mission was crucial for aligning the Diagnosis and Forecast Teams, enabling the preparation of solid and sustainable solutions for Manaus in the short, medium, and long term.
Soon, LIPOR will present the Forecast for the solid waste and urban cleaning component, which will be an integral part of the PMSBM.
