LIPOR promotes two capacity-building initiatives on Maio Island
As part of the service provision under LIPOR International – Global Waste Management, currently taking place on Maio Island, LIPOR conducted two capacity-building actions targeting different audiences, reinforcing its commitment to sustainability and efficient waste management.
The first initiative, the Masterclass on Sustainable Governance, was held on October 15 and was aimed at the President of the Maio Municipal Council and the respective Executive Board. The session sought to promote capacity-building and strategic alignment among local stakeholders, fostering the transition towards sustainability through the integration of governance models, management tools, and ESG practices. The initiative also contributed to positioning CITRES as a customized and sustainable solution for the island.
The Operational Capacity-Building Programme in Sustainable Waste Management, designed for the operational teams of the Urban Waste and Cleaning Department of the Maio Municipal Council, aims to equip these teams with the knowledge and structural tools necessary for implementing a sustainable waste management system, while reinforcing their role as active agents of environmental awareness and transformation. This training took place on October 16 and 17, with three additional in-person modules scheduled to follow.
These initiatives are part of the Capacity-Building Programme directed at the Maio Municipal Council, the beneficiary of the CITRES Project, which will be implemented by LIPOR throughout the project’s duration.
CITRES – Integrated Centre for Solid Waste Collection and Treatment on Maio Island is a project funded by the European Union and CAMÕES, I.P., with LIPOR acting as an implementing partner and waste management specialist. The project has been under implementation since 2024.
