LIPOR takes part in the Public Hearing on the Municipal Basic Sanitation Plan of Manaus
The public hearing on the Municipal Basic Sanitation Plan of Manaus took place this Monday. The Plan covers the areas of water supply, wastewater, drainage, and waste management, and included the participation of LIPOR as the entity responsible for preparing the Prognosis for the Waste Management component.
LIPOR, represented by the Head of the International Business Division, Susana Abreu, addressed requests, questions, and comments related to the waste component during the session, alongside the rest of the panel of specialists and consultants.
The public consultation has been underway since December and will continue until 16 February. The deadline was extended by an additional seven days to ensure broader stakeholder participation.
Subsequently, the team of consultants will analyse the contributions received and submit the final version of the Plan to the Municipality of Manaus by the end of February.
This Plan, with a 20-year time horizon, outlines the path that Manaus intends to follow. It is ambitious and provides guidance for public services towards higher standards of quality, public health, and sustainability, contributing to Manaus becoming a municipal, state, and federal reference in the country.
The waste management component focuses on increasing recycling rates, the inclusion of waste pickers, investment in selective collection, and the systematization of a common line of action in which communication and environmental education are key pillars. The Plan sets out the path forward, the actions to be developed, the studies to be carried out, and the challenges to be addressed. With solutions designed and tailored to the reality of Manaus, innovative and inclusive measures are presented, in which all stakeholders play an active role, contributing to the development and implementation of a single, shared strategy.
This is LIPOR Internacional’s contribution to building the Manaus of the future — the city where everyone aspires to live.
