LIPOR and Porto Ambiente launch an awareness campaign for the collection of cork stoppers
Restaurants, hotels, cafes and bakeries are being sensitized by a team with elements from LIPOR, Quercus and Porto Ambiente. In a first phase, around 150 HORECA establishments will be sensitized, with the expectation that, by the end of the campaign, more than a thousand customers will have joined the Rolha a Rolha Semeias a Recolha project.
LIPOR and Porto Ambiente are developing a door-to-door collection channel at non-residential customers (restaurants, cafes, canteens, etc.) in the municipality of Porto for the collection of cork stoppers, in partnership with Quercus, BA Glass, Amorim, Extruplás.
The project, developed by Quercus, LIPOR and its Associated Municipalities with the aim of encouraging cork recycling, aims to contribute to reforestation in Portugal, as for every 50 corks collected, an indigenous tree will be planted.
The creation of this new channel for collecting cork stoppers within the scope of Green Cork (a project created in 2008 by Quercus in partnership with Corticeira Amorim and Continente and which has already allowed the collection of around 98 million cork stoppers) will make it possible to send cork stoppers for recycling.
This pilot project aims to promote cork recycling, contribute to reforestation in Portugal and will allow participating establishments and their customers to contribute to the fight against climate change, by reducing CO2 emissions retained in cork stoppers, and to the development of the circular economy.
